Dollond was one of the great names in British optical instrument making, with roots in 18th-century London. “The Student” was designed as a practical refracting telescope for the amateur observer. Compact enough to pack into its fitted case, this surviving example recalls an era when exploring the night sky or a distant landscape meant setting up a brass optical instrument by hand.
